2 /5 Tkeyah Joseph: The experience that I had at Lake Mary Burn Boot camp helped me to gain more discipline and motivation. I got introduced through a friend of mines and initially I was loving the energy and the different exercises that gave me the opportunity to test my strengths and weaknesses. As time passed, I soon realized that there is a lack of inequality and support amongst the trainers, staff and the way that they promote the successes of other members. I started to feel less motivated and uncomfortable being in this space and it wasn’t cutting it for me anymore. I ended my membership after 3 months and that experience was a shit show. Can you imagine emailing your cancellation notice and not getting a response until after you had to call 3 times, email the franchise owner and still being charged even though they have the option to stop your autopay in their system? When I finally got someone on the phone I was informed by one of the trainers Jen that she doesn’t check emails after 11am and that’s why I didn’t get a response before having to call. She later stated there is a 7 day cancellation clause and I didn’t notify them within 7 days to prevent the auto pay. I told her when I signed up I was not informed of this as I wasn’t locked into a commitment contract, I was paying monthly without a commitment. That’s when she responded saying oh yes we just had a meeting on Saturday to remind the staff to inform new members of this. She disconnected the call so rudely and that immediately made me email the franchise owner. While Zach did respond to my email the same day and gave me reassurance that I won’t be charged, I still was charged my monthly fee. I had to email him a second time and provide proof that I was in fact charged. He never responded and still hasn’t to this day which is a week later, however I received my funds back within 48 hours after notifying him. I know he is trying his best to turn around the environment and I wish him the best of luck. It’s funny how I spoke to other people that previously attended Burn and they had similar experiences that showed me that some communities aren’t designed for other community members. I don’t do racial, ethnic or social judging however this experience has opened my eyes to still be mindful and remain WOKE. My advice join at your own risk and keep an open mind.
