5 /5 Nevena Zivkovic: Jane is wonderful person first of all, respectful and professional in her job. I have been having her as my lawyer since the year of 2017. I am from Serbia, came to USA on a work visa and I was working in a hotel in Florida Keys, being adventures and learning about new cultures, people and languages. That is where I met my husband. I got married and my husband found her to start working on my green card. When I was in my 5th month of pregnancy my husband decided we should move to Missouri, after he had an argument with his grandmother, where he started using drugs: marijuana and meth and also he was drinking. We were moving a lot considering he always had a different job. Jane was informed about our moving and everything that was going on but not about him using drugs. Jane didnt think it was a good idea to move away. She was still supportive. My husbands sister helped us out a lot by moving in with her and we stayed there, his sister helped out with all baby needs. I gave birth to our son and when he was a month old we moved in into our home. We were arguing a lot because he would spend so much money on drugs and alcohol.
He became violent after I gave birth to our son and he punched me in my face when our son was only 2 months old, I had 3 stitches on my lip and still stayed with him hoping he will change. He called the cops on himself because he was scared for my health. He promised he will change but he didnt. He used more drugs and became more violent and also he was mentally abusive. Being a new mom and dealing with him was so much stressful. I stayed and talked with him that we can make this work, I will help him. I did loved him. I havent contacted Jane since we couldnt pay her because he was quting his jobs hoping to find a better paying one.
I thought nobody is going to help me. That is also why I havent talked to my lawyer nor my parents. He didnt had a job for couple months and we were about to live on the street because we didnt paid the rent. I borrowed money from my parents and my friends so we could pay rent and electricity and he couldnt help it and he used it for drugs too. My parents are hardworking people, my dad works for other people cultivating land and my mom works as a caregiver in a home for disabled children, I also have a brother and a sister. We grew up being responsible and respectful to others and appreciating what we have.
One day he hit me while I was holding our son, I asked him to get up and call to see if he got the job, he became angry and threatened me he will beat me up if I dont leave him. I called his sister to pick us up and I told her what happened. My sister in law was a victim of domestic violence. My sister in law emailed Jane and she responded that day. Jane was shocked and sad that I didnt contacted her earlier so she would protect me. Jane was also a victim of domestic violence. She said she will work on my case for my VAWA visa pro bono. I am very grateful for her. She always answers my questions and believe me I have a lot. She makes me feel secure and knowing that she is on my side I dont worry for my sons future and mine. Right now I have my work employment and hopefully I will start working soon. My life changed because of Jane, she is my Guardian Angel. I would recommend her because she is professional, she went through the same as me, she understands what I am going through and she cares for me. She is amazing lawyer and I trust her.
