1 /5 Neil Parsont: Lifetime Fitness positions itself as a high-end luxury gym. However, its current state is anything but reflective of that experience, both visually and in terms of customer service. Right now, the gym is under heavy construction, both inside and outside the building. This work has been ongoing for months with no compensation or courtesy discount to members.
Recently, a gas line break caused a full-week shutdown of the entire club. Members were offered a one-week credit toward their next bill - nothing more.
I attempted to resolve the matter directly with both the local club and the corporate office. I explained my frustration with paying full price while the club was under significant construction and was told by in club staff: “Other members pay more than you.” When I asked to speak to a manager, I was offered the option to email her and was basically told, by implication, that nothing much would be done.
Calling corporate was just as unproductive. I was told I had the option of freezing my membership — which would mean paying around $35 a month to hold my spot with no access — or continuing to pay full price to access the premises, regardless of the construction.
Quite frankly, I find it appalling to be treated this way and that Lifetime does not seem to care about the customer experience. I am looking for another gym and will not be returning.
If you want to pay over $200 a month to walk into a construction site, be my guest. Not my cup of tea.
