1 /5 JP: I initially chose the Center for Excellence in Dentistry because it was conveniently located in the same building where I live. Unfortunately, my experience turned out to be far from excellent.
I scheduled an appointment for a routine teeth cleaning, which is what I expected to receive. However, after a quick look at my teeth, the dentist sent her assistant to inform me that my gums were inflamed and that I required a deep cleaning procedure, which involved going under the gums. I was told that not undergoing this procedure would put me at risk of a heart attack. This alarming statement seemed highly suspicious to me, so I reached out to my regular dentist for a second opinion. He assured me that this claim was completely unfounded.
When I expressed that I only wanted a standard cleaning, the dentist flatly refused, insisting that she would only perform the invasive procedure, which came with a hefty $1,000 price tag. This level of coercion and fear-mongering felt deeply unethical and like an outright scam.
I have since reported this incident to my insurance provider and filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I would strongly caution others to think twice before trusting this practice with their dental care.
Update: I just read Dr. Suarez reply, so I would add:
Dr. Suarez,
Thank you for your message. However, I must clarify that my concerns are not about insurance coverage or financial constraints, but rather about the accuracy and integrity of your diagnosis. Your assessment contradicted what was confirmed by other professionals, which raises serious questions about its validity. The issue here is not frustration with coverage, but the trustworthiness of the information you provided. Seeing the multiple 1-star reviews of patients describing the same situation reaffirms that your diagnosis tend to be wrong or that you act in bad faith.
I appreciate your acknowledgment of my regular dentists willingness to address my needs. Moving forward, I urge you to prioritize transparency and accuracy in your evaluations to avoid misleading patients.
