5 /5 Beverly LeMaster: Vero Beach Church of Christ is truly something special. Never before had I been to a church that so closely resembled what I believe was the true design for the church. They genuinely live out their motto: "We care for you, We count on you." Immediately the church cared for our family in a way I had never felt - people whom I had never met helped us move, helped us prepare for our first child, and brought us home-cooked meals once she arrived. And on the flip side of that, they counted on us to help the church and the community in their times of need. They helped me learn how to be more like Jesus as a friend, a mother, and a church member.
One of my favorite parts of the church is that they fully equip their members as best as they can. They practice what they preach. For example, last September we had a focus on financials. Each Sunday there was a sermon on what the Bible says about budgeting or investing, etc. Then at night, the church would host a hands-on class for the community to talk about the practical ways to actually budget or invest. And on top of that, elders who had experience in finance offered to meet 1-1 with families to help them with their personal budget. To me, that is a church that deeply cares about its members knowing what the Bible says about a topic, and then equipping them in the modern world with implementing those ideas.
This is not a mega-church. This is a small-knit community full of personality where you are guaranteed to get at least one homemade card a year. You can also count on community events like Fourth of July parties, Pumpkin Patches, and the Chili Cook Off.
The a cappella-style singing took some getting used to, but once I embraced the style, I saw the beauty in a bunch of believers voices coming together for Jesus. The worship team works so hard to be inconspicuously beautiful. If you have never heard four-part harmony before - you are in for a treat.
Lastly, this church does have an older congregation, as expected in Vero. But as a 28 year old couple, my husband and I found our place in this church amongst a bunch of pickleball, craft, kid-loving young adults.
