1 /5 Reviews Only: ⭐️ 1 Star – Predatory and Disgusting Behavior at Checkout
I am absolutely appalled by what I witnessed at the Belk checkout today. While I was checking upstairs near the elevator, the cashier next to us was assisting an extremely elderly gentleman who clearly had significant hearing difficulties. He repeatedly said “huh?” because he could not understand her.
Instead of slowing down, explaining clearly, or ensuring he understood what was happening, the cashier said — and I quote — “Okay, let’s just get you signed up for the credit card.”
It was blatantly obvious this man did not understand what was being presented to him. That is not “salesmanship.” That is predatory behavior.
I had to step in and say, “That’s disgusting. He clearly doesn’t even understand what you’re selling him. Do NOT sign him up for that.” Even after that, she continued attempting to push the credit card until we made her uncomfortable and made it very clear that her behavior was unacceptable.
Targeting confused elderly customers for credit applications is morally bankrupt. This is not aggressive selling — this is exploitation.
Belk should be ashamed if this reflects company culture. I will be contacting corporate because this behavior puts vulnerable people at serious financial risk. Families deserve to know that their elderly loved ones could be taken advantage of in your stores.
Do better. This was revolting to witness.
