1 /5 Joel Small: EDIT: They LIED to me. According to the person I spoke to on the phone, EFCU is REQUIRED by the National Credit Union Administration to send a MAILED LETTER (I specifically confirmed a MAILED LETTER), yet the NCUA regulations clearly state, "The guidance states it is a best practice to “promptly notify consumers when overdraft protection has been accessed, for example, by sending a notice to consumers the day the overdraft protection program has been accessed.” Id. The best practices are, however, guidance and not regulatory requirements."
They absolutely CAN send notifications BESIDES A MAILED LETTER. Maybe a telegraph, that way at least theyd be cutting edge for the 19th century.
Additionally, after having called two separate times and speaking to two separate supervisors, I was able to be fully refunded for all EIGHT (there was another right after I looked the first time) overdraft charges. However, NONE of the 4 different people I spoke to could tell me why they had originally only refunded 5 out of 7, instead of just all seven, yet they could then refund the remaining 2 (actually 3) charges. Very bizarre. Also, TODAY (the 18th), I just received my first overdraft notice IN THE MAIL. It was sent the 10th of the month... THE TENTH. EIGHT DAYS AGO. Had I not needed to log into the app to deposit a check, I might not have known until TODAY that my account was overdrawn. INSANE.

I dont understand how Eglin is so successful. To my shock and horror, I found out today when I deposited a check that my account has been EMPTY for over a week (my wife forgot to mention some checks to me) and I have been getting charged almost $200 of overdraft fees WITH NO NOTIFICATIONS!!!!!
I called today and found out they ONLY send overdraft notices BY MAIL. BY MAIL!!!! In the year 2025!!! Because "theres sensitive information". SO JUST SEND ME AN EMAIL THAT THERES A PROBLEM WITH MY ACCOUNT!!!
Not only that, but, apparently, you cant get alerts via their app UNLESS YOU SPECIFICALLY REQUEST THEM.
Fine. Ok. I get it. However, having just learned all of this today, I expected a full refund of overdraft fees ONLY to find out the supervisor will refund only FIVE OUT OF SEVEN. That is $66 dollars that was STOLEN from me. In more than a decade of my dealing with financial institutions in two separate countries, I have NEVER encountered ANY organization that did not instantly warn you of a problem with your account. I will be closing my account as soon as possible and warning everyone I know to stay as far away from Eglin as possible.
