1 /5 Vince: This was a couple of years ago, but honestly Ive never gotten over it.
Id recently(at the time) purchased a GE appliance that came with a brand new $100 free GE blender that I didnt need. I figured I would bring it in here, sell it for maybe $35-40, and theyd have a brand new product to sell, everyones happy. If they lowballed me, Id take it to another pawn shop. Seems easy enough, right?
When I brought it in, they asked if they could open it(which I did agree to, thinking theyd be gentle), but in the process they destroyed the box, destroyed the styrofoam, the plastic wrappers and pulled out every component, pulled it out of its bag and put them all across the counter. AFTER doing this, with a styrofoam and cardboard mess all over the counter, they shrugged and offered me $10. Having no other option at that point than to throw it in the trash(which to this day I regret not doing), I accepted in anger.
Ive never been back since. They couldve said "no". They couldve let me know they would only offer $10 before destroying the box. They couldve done anything kinder than that.
I wasnt desperate for that money, but I thought I would at least be treated with respect. Its clear that this place takes advantage of people, based on their behavior. I wish I had shared this when it happened, but Im sharing it now.
Edit: To respond to the owners response, this is 100% the store it happened at, I lived right up the road at the time, and never attempted to sell this item anywhere else due to what happened. I can say with certainty that they never made me an offer before opening it, because if it had been $10, I wouldve just left. They asked to open the box and confirm all items were in it before making an offer, and I agreed, but never expected them to absolutely destroy the packaging in the process, then give me a lowball offer to boot.
I had been to this location before, and had better experiences prior to this, but this DID happen, and no, you wont be getting another chance from me.
