4 /5 Jayna Eugene: Planet Fitness has a lot going for it—clean facilities, helpful staff, and a welcoming, judgment-free environment that’s perfect for people at all fitness levels. The equipment is well-maintained, and the affordable monthly rates are a big plus. I also appreciate the added perks of the Black Card membership, like massage chairs and access to other locations.
That said, the membership structure is the biggest downside. There’s no household or family plan available, which makes it difficult and expensive for families or couples who want to stay fit together. The Black Card option allows guest(s) but the primary account holder must be present. For families or partners with conflicting schedules, that makes it nearly impossible to use the gym together unless everyone has their own membership.
As a parent, I know how challenging it can be to coordinate workout times—and having to purchase multiple memberships under one roof just isn’t practical or affordable for many. A household plan or shared membership model would go a long way in making fitness more accessible for families who are trying to prioritize health together.
Overall, I enjoy working out at Planet Fitness and would still recommend it. I just truly hope they re-evaluate their membership options to better support families and households.
