5 /5 David Brown: Florida can be a good place to find great Chicago food, and this spot near Jacksonville was a terrific discovery. Its run by real Chicagoans (from the Southwest Side) who relocated a few years ago. Frankies has grown from a borrowed space, to a food truck, to their own spot with great Chicago aesthetics. You cant find authentic Italian beef everywhere, but these guys do it right, from the Turano rolls, to the spiced meat, to the giardinera and rich au jus. Reminded me of a number of places at home. Chicago dog was a hit for my son. Gyros was fresh off the spit. Tavern-style thin crust cheese pizza nailed it, too. (The other style of pizza Chicago does well.) The fries were excellent. They also sell more RC than you typically find in one place outside of Cicero. The next time Im on the Atlantic coast, Im going back.
