2 /5 Wendy Murphy Daudt Gutkin: We have eaten at the Sunset Grille many times over the years when traveling to visit family. It is an older restaurant and their lack of maintenance is beginning to show. They have a great location on the lake, but dont seem to take advantage of that.
Maybe theyve switched owners or chefs, but the food was not very good this time. The seafood used to be very fresh and prepared well. This was not fresh shrimp and scallops and they were overcooked. When I asked about the scallops (very rubbery & didnt look or taste like a real scallop) one of the staff told us that they were some type of a "mixed re-formed processed scallops" - so not a natural scallop at all. The menu states "scallops," not inedible rubbery blobs. The sauce for my dish was a good mango sauce, so the potential is there. The dish looked good, but needs to taste good as well. They just need to go back to using fresh real seafood.
In the past, we would see many dining there - lots of locals. Tonight it was pretty empty. They should consider why they changed what was working before.
