  • Highlands Hammock State Park - Sebring Violet Victoria: This was a lovely park. Went on a Tuesday so there werent many people there. You can see how the weekends would be super busy though. They have tram rides and bike rentals, camping areas, playgrounds, bike paths and walking paths. The walking trails are very well marked, clear and easy to navigate. No worries of getting lost or even off the path. The trails are all relatively short and mostly shaded. We did the entire park within a few hours. That being said, the place was beautiful. There were so many old trees and even an old growth forest area. The trees were so big and gorgeous. There was a Cyprus swamp area that felt other worldly. The one disappointment was that the catwalk was closed so our trek through the Cyprus swamp was on the main boardwalk only. We did see a lot of animals including 3 alligators, a bobcat, and lots of interesting birds. Right outside of the park we saw turkeys, cows, and some wild hogs. Its a nice place for easy peaceful walks, with restrooms, benches, and even a small shop.
Childrens Museum of the Highlands - Sebring Gillian Ryan: Not so much a museum as a huge play area with lots of interactive displays and great opportunities for kids to use their imagination. Great fun for everyone. Kids can pretend to be a fireman, a doctor, or an astronaut - complete with costumes. Or shop at a Publix grocery store, cook a meal in the diner or catch fish and camp out with Smokey the Bear. My 4 year old granddaughter loved it and played for over two hours. Even made a friend and didnt want to leave. Only $18 for two adults and one child on Wednesday morning. I highly recommend it.
Highlands Art League Inc - Sebring L Carter: I joined pretty much as soon as I got to town with a very warm & happy welcome. There is a members gallery & another large gallery space that always has a show. Its in a lovely shaded public area next to the theater the City Pier the beach the library historical society & the circle. Convenient to all culture and community. View enjoy buy original art & save the world from darkness.
Military Sea Services Museum - Sebring Nomad Travler: Really great museum with a lot of interesting stuff. I did the tour which was great because they pointed out things I probably would have not noticed or it doesnt give as much detail as the tour guide does. I would highly recommend.
The Florida Aquarium - Tampa Valerie Ladino: Entry was very pricey, $44 per adult. However on their website it says $33 which is not true (unless it might be online offered) It doesn’t seem worth $44, basically $95 for two adults. It definitely was a big and there was cool animals to see. I would recommend if you have kids, It’s very informative and most spots have interactive screens to learn more about the animals. Staff where nice and pretty clean environment overall. I would say really consider if it worth $44
Henry B. Plant Museum - Tampa Ana Carolina Garcia: Loved this museum. The building is so charming and unique, with a very interesting history and the collection of items is truly amazing and so well preserved. Well worth a visit, plus at a very good price. Also, allow yourself some time to sit on the rocking chairs in the veranda at the end, ac real joy.
Museum of Science & Industry - Tampa Tatiana Nicoli: MOSI made for the perfect afternoon for my 4 and 6 year olds. We were there for 4 hours and experienced every activity, plus took a quick break for a BBQ lunch. There was plenty of free parking and the activities (indoor and outdoor) provided plenty of options for all ages up to 12 yo. Well definitely be back!
ZooTampa at Lowry Park - Tampa Sunshine: Very cool experience! We went on a fresh day mid spring, which makes it more enjoyable. Most of the views are obviously outside, so I can’t imagine how bad it gets during summer. We didn’t get to see a couple of the animals, otherwise the rest were visible and towards the closing time we got to see a lot of monkeys up making noises which was really cool. There are nice attractions for toddlers and my kid loved everything. A good 2 hours minimum trip. I would definitely look into bringing my own food next time because I didn’t find anything worth consuming, so we got some hot dogs, which is not ideal for me.
Glazer Childrens Museum - Tampa Samantha Hafner: Perfect for toddler/preschool-kindergarten ages, but even the adults had fun. Each level has different activities, including a very large interactive water table (not a bad idea to bring a change of clothes or towel). They have splash jacket things but neither of my kiddos wanted to wear them. The climbing area is great for adventurous kids. The staff were really friendly and interacted with the kids. There is a food area that offers several snack and meal options that was reasonably priced. Overall, admission is a bit pricey, but they do offer a Florida resident discount and packages for families who may visit multiple times a year. The closest parking is the garage next door. We ended up going on a weekend where there was an event in CH park so it was $15 to park. While the museum is 3 levels, there is a large elevator. Theres also a place to park strollers on the first floor if you dont want to wait for the elevator. This is a fun place for a few hours, especially when its raining or weather gets really hot. We go about once a year and the kids seem to enjoy it.
Adventure Island - Tampa Dan Magnano: Spent a relaxing day at Adventure Island. The lazy river was the highlight—smooth current, clean water, and not overly crowded. Staff was friendly, and everything felt safe and well-managed. Great spot to cool off and unwind without the chaos of bigger parks. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the Tampa area looking for a laid-back water day. Get there early!
