1 /5 Samantha Morrell: I chose this provider because of his fancy credentials and positive reviews. It took over a month to schedule an appointment, which is to be expected. I was looking to establish care with a new internist, but after our first appointment, I will look elsewhere.
1) He is very condescending. I was raised in a family of MDs and NPs. I worked in hospitals as a medical social worker for over 5 years. I have been receiving medication management intermittently (from MDs and NPs) since 2009. I was in complete shock as Dr. Dunhill belittled other providers in his line of work. To quote verbatim, "Nurse practitioners are just feel good doctors. They will give you want you want." To which I replied, the NPs who have treated me in the past were very qualified..and I did not meet with them WANTING more medication." He said he felt sorry for me after hearing the medicines I am on. I didnt know what else to say other than to thank him for his honesty. I was so uncomfortable I didnt know how else to diffuse his opinions.
2) Dr. Dunhill indicated he would prescribe me only 30 days of a medication dose I have been on for over a year; but, in the next sentence, he acknowledged it could take up to a year to see a good psychiatrist. So doc, what am I supposed to do for medicine after day 30? His solution was to taper down the dose. Meanwhile - this is the only medicine I specifically mentioned made me feel "the closest to my old self."
3) On the doctors office intake form, you are asked if "youve been fearful of a partner in the past year." I selected yes. The only related question I was asked about during my appointment was, "are you a victim of domestic violence?" If youre going to ask me about something on your intake form, please take the time to read it.
4) He is not a trauma informed doctor. He had me lay down to perform a physical exam, and he did not ask before he started poking around my pelvic and hip regions. A trauma informed physician will at least say "Im going to touch you here, is that OK?" before proceeding.
5) Labs were not drawn. Ive never heard of a provider who was so quick to refer out for every other speciality, but did not bother ordering their own labs to establish a baseline for a new patient. He stated hes the Dr. you see for "high cholesterol, diabetes, etc." I understand the difference between a psychiatrist and an MD. If you want to screen me for the conditions you do treat/vet, where are the labs?
6) Insensitive bedside manner. He does not exchange pleasantries or bother getting to know you. I got a "nice shirt" compliment as he was walking out of the door. Nothing like, what brings you in today? HOW ARE YOU? Nope. Just a handshake.
I left the appointment feeling extremely dismissed and appalled. It is wrong for an MD to put down others in the medical field. Everyone is on the same team, and his credentials do not give him license to be arrogant. This doctor made me feel SO badly about myself.
I will not be surprised if this review is met with: discrediting my experience, defending his actions, invalidating my emotions, or asking me to call the office to rectify/discuss. Readers stay tuned.
