5 /5 Kathryn Joy: This spot is a gem for two types of walks.
1) A somewhat short (1-mile) but beautiful trail with 14 interpretive stops and a lookout tower. This one is perfect for slower walkers and talkers with plenty of photo ops. Youll see water, birds, oak hammocks, a wide variety of plants and grasses. Wear bug spray on muggy, low-wind days and be prepared to walk along the sides or get wet in low spots after a rain.
2) You can add length and speed if you didnt get enough from your walk by taking the dirt road down to the river and hanging left. Here you can add mileage and enjoy a great view of the Indian River facing east.
This preserve is right off of Old Dixie Highway which is a drive worth taking all the way from the North Causeway in Fort Pierce all the way to Highland St. In Vero . It reminds me of "Old Florida" which is fast disappearing.
Enjoy!
