Carson Springs Wildlife Conservation Foundation - Waldo Jordan Malecki: An amazing place for people of all ages!! Our tour guide, Mia, was great to have on our Valentine’s Day tour! You can tell they genuinely care for the animals there. Along with the conservation of these magnificent creatures. I would recommend everyone to tour here at least one, and maybe consider sponsoring some animals or donating!
Camp Blanding Museum - Starke Eizu Fredrickson: A small but packed museum focused on the role that Camp Blanding played during WWII. The guide was very welcoming and well-informed about the history of the place. Free entrance, although a donation is recommended. The building and outdoor displays are all outside of the military base, so you dont need to go through the gate for this experience. After youve been through the museum, there are several historical military vehicles on display outside, on both sides of the street.
Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park - Keystone Heights Brenda Elmquist: 1st time here recently. Stayed at a CCC cabin. Price was good, they are old but had everything we needed. They were Lakefront, but NOT like the pictures! Due to much overgrowth of bushes, etc. to prevent views of water ! The cabin needs a thorough cleaning! There were bits of food in kitchen sink drain- some blinds are broken, need replacing. Areas around baseboards, behind bathroom sink, etc.havent been cleaned in long time. A dollar tree air freshener (strong, weird smell) was stuck in kitchen w/ window open to soften the smell, on our arrival. A fresh coat of paint would go a long way, on doors, wood chairs on porch, porch wood, etc..No TV’s in cabins, very QUIET so go for that and read & relax! Trails around were nice (Ridge, & Mill trail, tho there ISNT a Mill! 1 st sign needs replacing stating that, you don’t know til we’ll into the trail when you see a sign that is still visible). )The Recreation area is nice, hardly anyone there (weekday). Drove the campground, one loop is nice w/ shaded lots,(Lakeview Loop tho there really isn’t a lake view?) the other Loop isn’t nice, with little shade, etc..They say it’s busy on wknds.Keystone heights is close enough to enjoy restaurants, some shopping, etc.. If we went again we would pay more & get the more modern cabin, or largest cabins, still priced well.
Andretti Thrill Park - Melbourne Stephany Arwood: Buy the Groupon! We had a blast! We caught it on a good day where there was no wait for any of the attractions! Go karts, rock climbing, batting cages, bumper boats, arcade, laser tag all included in the Groupon! Everyone was super friendly too!
Treetop Trek inside Brevard Zoo - Melbourne Ryan B: Overall it was a great add on for the zoo. We did the canopy walk and zip lines. The $25 canopy walk over the animal enclosures was definitely worth the money. You get a lot closer to the animals than if you just walked through the exhibit. Most of the animals have walkways between enclosures so it was cool to see them running around. The challenges were medium and weren’t hard but there was a few that required some extra concentration. The $15 zip line was fun but not something we would do again. You do 2 zip lines over the wetlands and that’s it.
Turkey Creek Sanctuary - Palm Bay Nancy Quinn: What a wonderful hidden treasure in Palm Bay! Free parking and the first thing you walk up to is a butterfly garden. There is a variety of paths you can take for your walk - a path for those who like to exercise that have various exercise stations throughout; a hiking path that meanders through areas of shade and some sunny spots. My favorite was the boardwalk. This meandering walk features boards engraved in quotes, peoples names, groups and honoring a loved ones memory. For a small donation of $75 to this nonprofit, you can have a board engraved. The path features little side areas where you can view beautiful scenery. Its also a self-guided tour with information on the fauna throughout. Dont miss the walk on the boardwalk near the water! I saw many turtles, fish and to my excitement, two manatees swimming slowly by. Stop by the information center for a bottled water, displays and purchase inexpensive jewelry as a memento of your special day!
Barrier Island Sanctuary - Melbourne Beach Kenny Dorsey: Wonderful, family friendly facility with amazing volunteers. The one mile trail on the other side of the highway is incredible, a real sanctuary. Thank you for hosting the sustainable Easter Egg Hunt. Really made our visit special.
Downtown Melbourne - Melbourne Kyle Grace: Quirky little shops and art galleries and great places to eat
Green Gables - Melbourne Kat: I enjoyed the tour, but it was long (1 1/2 hours) and hot. Theres no air conditioning and almost no cross ventilation- especially upstairs. They do have fans running in one of the downstairs rooms. I would enjoy coming back to this winter home again but during the winter months. The house needs a lot of work, and I hope to see it one day restored to its former glory.
Erna Nixon Park - West Melbourne Benjamin Miles: A hidden gem. This park is centered around its circular-ish walking trail, mostly on a raised boardwalk, through a variety of local ecosystems. The visitor center located near the entrance/parking is also really terrific, sometimes has access to some local ecology displays, and hosts all kinds of interesting events.
