  • Indian Rocks Beach Nature Preserve - Indian Rocks Beach William Williams: Although I visited around 4:00 pm and wasnt sure if I would find much activity on the water I was able to watch numerous striped mullets jumping. Also, I captured slow motion video of a pelican enjoying diving for several of the mullets. Theres also a very nice dog park and playground before going out on the boardwalk.
Butterfly Garden - Largo Kaydee: The butterfly garden was a fun FREE activity that my family and I enjoyed. We were able to walk through the tropical fruit garden and see the various fruits in bloom. My favorite was the butterfly garden and seeing the variety of butterflies. There was a playground for the kids to enjoy although I think they really enjoyed being able to see the turtles sun bathing more.
Tiki Gardens - Indian Shores Beach Access - Indian Shores Mariellen T.: Excellent historical area dedicated to the Native Americans of Indian Shores! Ample parking, as well as restrooms, washing station (beach side), and great location. Must pay to park.
House of Seven Gables - Largo Robyn Timmons: I was so excited to have a tour because the last time I went it was under construction. This house is absolutely breathtaking!
Mary Holland Park - Bartow Heather Spence: Beautiful Park! Love love the sidewalk... However it really sucks when dog owners do not pick up after their loved one; no one wants shit on their shoes! Please clean up after your babies!!
Polks Nature Discovery Center - Lakeland Jessica D: What a lovely area to see alligators and other wildlife in the wild, without the harm of forced animal encounters - and best of all, it was free! Saw some adorable baby gators and lots of wildlife throughout. Other visitors on the trails were helpful in pointing out animals they had seen on their nature walks. The trails we went on were clean and big enough for bikes or strollers.
Wonder House - Bartow Jessica Toy: This was a different local outing in Polk County. It was very interesting and fun to explore. Make advance reservations through their website. The tour was closer to 2 hours with some extra time to wander the grounds afterwards, so I’d definitely budget a little extra time at the end there. The guide was great and knowledgeable. I did have my young kids (6 and 10) with me. I would say that everyone was friendly to them, including the guide, but they were not very interested in the tour. If I were to do this again I would leave them at home lol
Polk County History Center & Genealogical Library - Bartow Nick Unthank: I am increasingly amazed at the level of detail and gorgeous presentation of this county museums and History Centers. Everything looks so clean and professionally designed. I especially loved the Dixie Highway exhibit as old Roadside Attractions are a personal obsession. The staff is very helpful and the building is very clean and well kept. A good museum will teach your something new and we left the Polk County History Center with a wealth of additional knowledge. Highly recommend this visit!
Mosaic Peace River Park - Bartow Norma Baker: It is a wonderful area to see and explore. We definitely enjoyed the views and peaceful atmosphere. The boardwalks are all still closed, and it seems like such a shame. There are a lot of comments on here that span more than a year regarding the boardwalk situation. Im sure if there were some kind of community outreach, patrons of this park would gladly help restore it to a more walkable space. Still, we thoroughly enjoyed our time there, made some tortoise friends, and spotted a lot of other animal tracks. We look forward to our next adventure at Mosaic Peace River Park.
Historic L. B. Brown House Museum - Bartow Ursula Thompson: Wonderful tour! Learned such powerful history about Lawrence B Brown, a man born into slavery in 1856, but used his God-given gifts to break from the oppression and spread his wings ! Ms Patricia was our guide. She was extremely knowledgeable and made the tour very pleasant and enjoyable.
