Awena Mural - Fort Pierce Samara Ash: “Awena” is a breathtaking large outdoor mural that graces the heart of the Peacock Arts District City in Fort Pierce, FL. Named after the Native American word for sunrise, this monumental masterpiece is a testament to the rich tapestry of this community’s history, resilience, & boundless potential. This Public Art piece was made by Colombian-American artist Samara Ash. FAU Harbor Branch Ocean Discovery Visitors Center - Fort Pierce Jay Martin: Super cool tour! Very relaxing boat ride with lots of nature sightings: manatees, dolphins!, different birds and more. Very impressive technology with screens at every seat and an ROV underwater drone which allowed us to see under the water in high definition. Our tour guide Sam was very knowledgeable, friendly and entertaining! George LeStrange Preserve - Fort Pierce K Riv: Really enjoyed the visit here with the family. We rode bikes and walked. The path goes around the lake and is wide throughout and shady in parts. There are sitting look out spots along the way. It’s peaceful and pretty. Looks like you can fish and kayak there as well. I will say there are not many spots for fishing that are free of brush if you’re standing along the shore . There is some grass area as well. I did not see any restrooms. Sweetwater Hammock Preserve - Fort Pierce novella moss: This used to be such a cute short little loop that was a beautiful walk at anytime in the year.
Very disappointed, so much garbage, everything is dead/brown and the picnic table is IN THE WATER. I was going to jump out on it and read, but honestly the scenery wasn’t worth it.
I Little Jim Bridge Park - Fort Pierce Grzegorz Szura: Fantastic place. Very enjoyable. Prices reasonable. Super atmosphere. Jenelle fantastic girl waitress that cares and takes care. Love here. Super Nice. Thank you Frederick Douglass Memorial Park - Fort Pierce Sadie Chelsea: Beautiful little quiet park. We came here for horseback riding on the beach. But if youre just going to the park, there are tables for sitting and relaxing and eating. There is beach entrance access. The area was nice and clean. Bring your bug spray though! A lot of mosquitos and noseeums. Avalon State Park - Fort Pierce Tim Blackwell: Nice facility with beach access, pavilions and restroom facilities. Ingress and egress from the highway is good. I was suprised at the number, sizes and varieties of lizard-type species were visible. Citrus Hammock Preserve - Fort Pierce Robin Standlee: A nice quiet walk- saw crows, blue heron, pileated woodpecker, flowers and an armadillo and heard sand hill cranes. Only saw 2 other people there and they had the same experience of frustration from lack of markings on the trail. It had been dry so I was hoping to not have to navigate muddy areas. Not so. It doesn’t seem like it would take a whole lot to address those areas with wood bridges. Because of the lack of signage, I found myself walking on a sidewalk next to the road on the way back to the parking lot. Not bad, but not a preference. I’ll go back, wear some hiking boots and try a different path. If you don’t have a FL state park pass, there is a $3 fee, honor system.
