San Lazaro Catholic Church - Hialeah (FL)

1 /5 Juan Glen: We have been faithful attendees of San Lazaro Church for over 30 years, but our recent experience has deeply saddened us. Following the passing of our beloved 88-year-old mother, we tried to arrange for a mass in her honor at the church. Unfortunately, the staffs behavior during this difficult time was both inconsiderate and rude, marking not the first instance of such treatment. Ever since the passing of the previous priest, Father Luis, the atmosphere has drastically changed, and the church no longer embodies the Catholic spirit we once revered. This experience has left us contemplating our place in a congregation that seems to have lost its way.

1 /5 Jessica Fernandez: Beautiful church and beautiful mass horrible staff constantly felt judged and was spoken to in a very condescending way constantly by Betty, Jose and Maritza. I attended this church for 3 years I always donated and respected everyone there and will always be grateful that my daughter had her communion at this church but it was a hassle. Betty requested my daughters baptism multiple times and she kept misplacing it, she was always sarcastic and disrespectful with us. Since we had a few tragic deaths in our family we never able to baptized my son so at age 3 for one year straight We tried to attend the classes only offered Monday night but because my husband and I have opposite schedules Jose offered to help us on a different day that which sounded extremely helpful it was a horrible experience he met with us to give us the class and it was horrendous he judged us and kept saying that we are doing this for our family not for Jesus and then he said comments like we don’t really read the Bible so we wouldn’t know and made us feel guilty again judging us my sister was so mortified she refused to be the godparent and attend that church we then we were able to get an aunt to be the godparent because unfortunately we have no family in Florida and he kept telling us he was too busy he would ignore our calls and ignore our messages for then when I contacted the church Maria Teresa said she was also too busy and then proceed to hang up on me. My husband also passed by and they said Maritza was not there so no one could help us. This church is not welcoming at all they act like they are doing u a favor and that u should be grateful it’s all for appearances it does not come from the goodness of there heart. I feel that this experience ruin the idea of church for my daughter and now I’m trying to convince her it’s just this church. We are now attending another church and We have felt welcomed since day one and they have setup a baptism day for our son right away with no hassles. Sadly If your Older or Cuban u would probably be more accepted at this church because they were treated differently from what we can see. But as far as the staff I don’t feel they are geared to welcome younger mostly English speaker with broken barely to understand Spanish. The only person that should ever judge us is Christ. I wanted to pass this message along to other people that are considering this church beware if your trying to get any sacraments done dont waste your time or donations at this church.

1 /5 Gabriela Rojas: Horrible experience when we got up for the offering he stopped my mother and asked if she had done communion and she was the only person who he stopped then told us to shut up because we joked about her being stopped when we all sat down. Never coming again
