This park is off the main road in a quiet and secluded location. Parking could be an issue as their was only one parking lot for about 20 vehicles or so. If you come during a government shutdown be sure to use the bathrooms before you arrive as the facilities are not kept open but access to the park remains open. Their are multiple trails with the longest being about 3 miles in length total. The trails are well maintained consisting of hard packed dirt with some areas of loose dirt. I donāt know what the elevation drop is but on the way back it is a noticeable incline. Hikers should be weary that the return trip will be tougher than the outgoing trip.
The weather could be a deterrent during the summer or days that are unusually hot. Although most of the trail is covered in canopy and sunlight fails to reach the ground in most places the humidity still remained elevated. Recommend this place for those without mobility issues as the loose dirt, numerous tree roots, the heat, and the incline on the return could pose an issue.
Amenities: no bathroom access during the government shut down. There was also no water fountain or gift shop in the area. Recommend you bring your own food and plenty of water. Along the trails there are benches every quarter mile or so and plenty of signs to read. The big attraction is the Willie Browne cabin where only the foundations remain to this day.
