1 /5 Cassie Elaine: (Long post but explains a lot given the last bad posts)
I visited this consignment shop a couple of weeks ago and initially had a positive impression. During my last visit, I noticed a decorative tissue box displayed on a shelf in the sales section alongside other items for purchase, with a visible sale tag. I didn’t buy it at the time, but it stayed on my mind.
Two weeks later, I decided I was going to buy this tissue box — I needed it. Knowing exactly where it was, I decided to drive an hour back to the store specifically to purchase it. When I arrived two weeks later, the item was still in the same spot, which made me genuinely excited, as you can see in one of these videos.
At the counter, I was told the item was not for sale because it didn’t have a tag; however, there was a tag two weeks ago (I forget the exact amount, but around $16). I explained that I had seen it priced during my prior visit and that it had been displayed for at least two weeks in a retail sales section. She told me none of those items are priced and not for sale, but as you can see from the video, many items have price tags. I mentioned that I had driven a considerable distance solely to buy it. I even offered to pay whatever price was appropriate. Despite this, she said no. I was told that none of the items in that area were for sale and that the employee had no authority to sell it.
What was most disappointing was the lack of any attempt to help or clarify the situation — no effort to check where the item came from, confirm whether it had been mistakenly tagged, consult a manager, or provide a reasonable explanation. The item was taken from me almost immediately and placed back on the shelf, and the interaction ended abruptly.
Mind you, the store was not busy, and there was no line behind me.
Consignment shops rely on clear labeling and transparent communication. When items are displayed in retail sections and with price tags, customers reasonably assume they are available for purchase. This experience was unnecessarily frustrating and avoidable with even minimal customer service.
I’m giving one star because of the lack of consideration and effort on the staff’s behalf. She said hello as I walked in, but the effort ended there.
I also saw another review about a Saturday 4:35 experience before close. I arrived at 4:00 sharp this Saturday. There was an older white woman at the counter. I walked straight to where the item was displayed two weeks ago, then straight to checkout. If the owner doesn’t want to be bothered on a Saturday evening during business hours, then perhaps she should hire someone who could make executive decisions on items that cost $15 on Amazon — which I am now purchasing for $15 and will have delivered tomorrow. I would have rather paid a local shop for anything I purchase, but since I was turned away after driving an hour and completely disregarded, I will never visit this store again.
