5 /5 Kensey lang: This restaurant might be the thing I miss most about Gainesville. As a junior at UF, I have been going here for nearly three years and have recommended this place to everyone in my sight. I have tried everything on the menu. All of the food is fresh and feels clean/not greasy at all.
I think Munecas sets itself apart with the quality/texture of their meats, the flavor of their sauces (yum yum is my fav), and the good feeling after eating. I have never felt heavy or sluggish after these meals, unlike many other Mexican/Latin restaurants I’ve tried.
My go tos are the chicken burrito or the chicken bowl. Something about the pulled chicken here is unmatched. It’s soft, flavorful, and never dry. The nachos, salty and extremely rich, are incredible for game day and drinks. The moqueqa bowl is so good every once in a while, especially on cold nights. Its coconut curry is so rich and flavorful, and complimented by fresh veggies and herbs. I recommend choosing the local fish, and going up higher than normal on the spice. The fish wok tacos are immaculate, and 3 is definitely filling enough. The quesadillas are a bit heavier, but have a deluxe blend of cheese and veggies, and mix so well with the pulled chicken. The tortillas for the burritos and quesadillas are always grilled a bit, so they have the perfect crunch to softness ratio.
I think it’s absolutely worth the price. While some meals are pricier, the very filling 11 dollar chicken burrito makes this a cost efficient option.
I grew up on the west coast (az/cali), with a ton of Mexican food. This place is top tier, and everyone I know agrees.
