5 /5 Jon KeL: I’ve been to Sugar and Spice a few times for lunch and have always enjoyed the experience, but this was my first time stopping in for dinner. I decided to try the meatloaf—comfort food at its finest—and I wasn’t disappointed. It was hearty, well-seasoned, and had that homemade quality that makes you feel like you’re sitting at grandma’s table.
However, I did notice one small issue with the meal: the portion of sides compared to the generous serving of meatloaf. Don’t get me wrong, the meatloaf was filling and delicious, but it felt like I had enough left over to make a second meal… if only I had more of the sides to go with it. I chose the yams and collard greens, and both were just as flavorful as the main dish—sweet, tender yams and perfectly seasoned greens that had just the right amount of soul.
Overall, the food was satisfying and the atmosphere had that warm, welcoming vibe that keeps you coming back. I’ll definitely return for dinner again, but next time I might just order an extra side or two to balance things out. If you’re looking for a spot that serves up soulful, stick-to-your-ribs cooking, Sugar and Spice is definitely worth the visit.
