5 /5 Crystal Johnson: Loafers Bench: A Small-Town Gem with Big Flavor!
Nestled on a cozy corner, Loafers Bench truly is a hidden gem! Its not just a place for fresh-made sandwiches; its a delightful spot where you can discover an array of specialty food items, all while soaking in its charming small-town atmosphere.
We visited yesterday, eager to try their sandwiches, and we werent disappointed. Every sandwich at Loafers Bench isnt just assembled; its crafted with evident love and care. Their menu thoughtfully changes weekly, so theres always something new to try. Currently, theyre open Wednesday through Friday from 11 AM to 2 PM, and Saturday from 11 AM to 3 PM – definitely worth a visit (or two, or three!).
Our Sandwich Selections during our visit, we indulged in three distinct sandwiches: the Cuban, the Turkey Bacon, and the Jalapeño Popper. Each offered a very different flavor profile, and each was absolutely delicious in its own right!
The Cuban sandwich was a standout reinterpretation of a classic. What sets it apart are its unique twists. The pulled pork, often dry in other versions, was prepared exceptionally well here. Instead of basic American Swiss, they use Gruyere, which brings a more complex flavor. And the traditional yellow mustard? Replaced with a horseradish mustard that perfectly complemented the pickle.
The Turkey Bacon sandwich elevated a classic. Served on swirled pumpernickel rye, it was generously layered with fresh sprouts, ripe tomatoes, Havarti cheese, crispy bacon, and a substantial portion of sliced turkey, all brought together with a delectable balsamic and mayo mixture.
As for the Jalapeño Popper sandwich, it was, quite simply, a hot, melty flavor explosion! This sandwich was a vibrant mix of jalapeños, pepperoni, salami, bacon, two (or more!) cheeses, and a surprising touch of sweetness from a jam or jelly. It masterfully checked all the boxes: sweet, savory, and spicy!
Beyond the Sandwiches
While we didnt get to try them, their carrot cake and blueberry cheesecake pie looked incredibly tempting. If they taste even half as good as they appeared, anyone who tries them is in for a treat!
Overall, its clear we absolutely loved Loafers Bench! Were already planning our next visit.
