DJ C: Went on insurance plan that required a primary care physician. Previously, I was on a PPO, no referrals necessary. I have been seeing the same infectious disease doctor and endocrinologist for the past 20 years. Made an appointment, was examined by a Doctor who understood very little English. When I left, I asked the receptionist if she could send a referral to my two doctors, I needed to see them for my periodic visits. She said she would take care of it. Six weeks later no referrals. I called, she said she would take care of it. Again no referrals. Then she said I needed to come into the office for bloodwork. I told her I had my blood work completed a week before, and had my infectious disease Doctor fax her a copy. Call three more times and she said “the referrals are under consideration.“ Then I get a text that I had an appointment the following day at 3 PM. I called the office to ask about the appointment because I had not made one. She told me it was for a physical and would I like to cancel it I said yes, but I need the referrals, she said OK. When I called a few days later, she said I could not get the referrals until Dr. Rothstein examined me, and I had canceled my appointment. I lost my temper. Dr. Rothstein then sent me an extraordinarily condescending message telling me that his office is not “a referral service“ and that he would not make a referral based on what I say. This DO should understand the only reason I need him is for referrals. I have done without a primary care physician for 40 years. I like the idea of a PCP, to have a doctor to call for minor issues not related to my HIV infection or diabetes. I am switching doctors because this office is really screwed up.

He is very caring, thorough, knowledgeable, and takes his time in all aspects of your care. Being new to this location, I was a bit anxious. However, all of that went away quickly! Boca Raton: Incredible careless to answer the phone within work hours. They dont answering the phone between 12:30-2:30pm, OK fine, but have been calling like 10 times from 2:31pm till 3:12pm and they keep having the office phone answering in automatic not allowing option 1 to be able to schedule an appointment but they still have the answering system off not allowing option 1. I guess th office manager have some serious work to do .

Thomas G: I only had a single doctor’s appointment with a Broward Health doctor, and it ended up becoming a 6 month nightmare. My annual doctor’s physical ended up costing hundreds of dollars. Virtually impossible to get someone helpful on the phone to discuss. They have a decentralized network of call centers whose favorite game is sending you a different call center. After I was finally able to settle my account, they sent my bill to a collector (AFTER I HAD PAID IT!) and then refused to withdraw it saying “there’s nothing they can do.” It has been a Kafka-esque carnival of horrors that I’m yet to be free of. If you’re reading this and you are considering using a Broward Health physician or doctor, my advice would be to RUN AND HIDE. Lock your doors, hug your families, and thank the Lord you don’t have to deal with this deeply dysfunctional and cynical healthcare provider.

Mike Kurry: Saw Dr Lucia Blanchard today for a bi-annual follow up. Everyone in the office is very nice and cordial and except for my pcp not sending in a referral and it taking 3 calls to get it, there were no problems or delays. Dr Blanchard and I discussed future tests and advantages and disadvantages of having a procedure done. The next test will determine what happens next.
