1 /5 Ash Leigh: I went to the ER from work after being told to do so by my doctor. I was having horrible pain, fever, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Recently, I had an IUD placed so there was some worry of an ectopic pregnancy. My father met me there so I would not be alone as my boyfriend was working. We sat there quietly talking, but my head was pounding. I asked for some Tylenol. The nurse came back with Haldol and Benadryl. I worked in hospitals and my boyfriend is a doctor so I have some medical knowledge. Enough to know that Haldol is an antipsychotic that was regularly given to extremely unruly patients. I thought it was weird but decided he had a medical degree and I didn’t so I wouldn’t argue. This was a mistake. The pain got worse despite the heavy sedative keeping me unconscious which I was told my pain couldn’t be that bad because I was sleepy… I was then misdiagnosed by the ER doctor. Turns out my labs didn’t show that at all. So either he didn’t wait for my labs before releasing me or he didn’t bother to read them. I read them with my primary care doctor and learned he did absolutely everything wrong. Oh and worse, I’m allergic to Haldol. So I was in pain and bed ridden with shakes for three days for a medication I should have never been given in the first place. Now, I’m left with a big bill and the knowledge to never let this facility touch me again.
