5 /5 Charles Q: This is an entire complex of buildings, comprising an old jail(haunted), the county archives, an old courthouse, a railroad museum, and the Clay County Historical Society, with many artifacts both donated and discovered, deeds, wills, old maps, numerous photographs and a few very enthusiastic volunteers.
Its only open on Sunday afternoons from 2 to 5 which is a shame, but the president of the Historical Society is completely okay with giving guided tours by appointment on other days.
I brought my son today and he loved it. We spent nearly 2 hours there and could have stayed longer.
The museum is in its own building and features themed rooms. Want to see a country store, with 19th century goods and tools? This is the place.
Slim Whitman grew up around here. Come see his guitars, his gold albums, and 3 walls worth of memorabilia.
Railroad stuff? They got it. Old lanterns, switches, conductors hats and uniforms.
Theres plenty of parking and admission is free. Toss some money in the jar by the door though. Its well worth it.
Stop by on a Sunday afternoon. Youll be glad you did!
