1 /5 Billy Witmore: The repair to Eds Crv was both unprofessional and unethical. At several points throughout the repair, Freddie should have known the engine needed more than a timing chain. Anytime a timing chain breaks on an interference engine (which a CRV has) , you should look for signs of bent valves.
By simply turning the engine over by the crank bolt, the mechanic could have told there was damage. The piston hitting the head would have a very obvious feel. If he suspected damage to the valves, he could have either used a bore scope to inspect them OR remove the heads to further inspect the heads and valves.
Ed was told "mistakes" happen by friends who recommended Freddie, but this isnt a mistake, it is a gross oversight. I would expect this kind of oversight from a shade tree mechanic, not a known business. Avoid this shop for any serious repair.
