05-2025 Premier Dental Team in List 5 Dentist Open Saturday in Gainesville, FL Family & Cosmetic Dentistry - Gainesville Powers Tony (FireUpChips): I ended up going to Dr. Hughes because Santa Fe Family Dental was no longer in my network. While I will say he seems like an amazing person, I think the difference from being an “ok” doctor to a “great” dr are the intangibles and empathy. You need to be able to put yourselves in your patients shoes. I just don’t feel the same comfort one should feel at the Dentist. Also, I have really good insurance. Why is a cleaning over $115 dollars?! Oh not to mention, I told him during the cleaning it was painful and he told me maybe my last dentist wasn’t cleaning my teeth correctly. Like I said, nice guy but don’t have the qualities to be a good dr. You run that place like a cat shop, where it should be looked at with more care and concern. I still respect you, but not for me. $120 for a cleaning is crazy. That is considered preventive and I don’t pay for preventive procedures (even if it’s under the gums) every dentist I been to always numbs when you clean under the gums. ALWAYS. I can’t believe I almost allowed your team to do that. Horrible experience. Can’t recommend.
Coast Dental - Gainesville Jorge Cabrera: I had a very similar experience to what Anna M mentioned in a previous review. I have never experienced the amount of waiting and forepayment needed until I visited this practice. Causing important time disruption and prolonged physical discomfort. Im willing to discuss with anyone in this company who ever picks up the phone, which in my experience is only answered for appointment scheduling.
They do charge a $100 fee upfront to enter you into their system even if you took 10 minutes the day before to fill out their form, but that was just one of the surprises on that first visit. They will also charge you upfront for future procedures. The office tends to smell like cigarettes and some of the equipment has visible rust on it. They only have one doctor seeing other 5 people while you wait and the anesthesia wears out. Every step of the process takes extremely long, except for billing.
I decided not to go back after I went to have a fair amount of adjustments from a previous visit where the doctor started to get frustrated because he was overbooked. Im glad they only touched one half of my mouth because it took weeks to get the adjustments done while I was painfully trying not to chew on the one side they worked on. Im still waiting for reimbursement for the other half I had paid for upfront.
At this point Im taking them to the Alachua Small Claims court for a reimbursement they said it could take up to 12 weeks, and here we are 24+ weeks later and no response, passing the ball from office to office, department to department and no mythical regional manager has ever contacted me like their customer service reps said they would. Theres an obvious disconnect between their customer service and the office. Messages are never passed down and no one assumes responsibility, but somehow, I still get calls about appointments that I never scheduled.
Coast Dental - Gainesville `: Prescribed me some special deep cleaning and refused to complete the regular basic cleaning that insurance would pay for. The doctor zooms in which is last thing I want for a dentist. Also, while waiting, I overheard the manager being told in a meeting to basically squeeze every penny out of patients and if they become difficult and dont want to pay extra fees imposed on them let them go. Although they are probably technically are not breaking any laws, the whole thing totally feels like a scam. Taking my business elsewhere, and regret not reading other peoples reviews.
Yvette Godet, D.M.D. - Gainesville Sarah Carey: What a wonderful experience I had today as a first-time patient and visitor to Dr. Godets warm and wonderful office. I was impressed by the professional and welcoming staff and by Dr. Godets knowledge and patience as she went over all of her findings with me. I had to wait a bit to get an initial appointment, but it was worth the wait. The office has a great ambiance and the team seems to work harmoniously. I have a treatment plan I understand and will soon embark upon, and am so grateful for the recommendations I received about this practice. A++
Delmond Dentistry - Gainesville Sage Jennings: They make going to the dentist as pleasant as it can be! The entire staff is extremely competent and friendly. Kim cleans my teeth with attention to detail and keeps an eye out for any potential issues for Delmond to focus on. Delmond is honest and good at explaining technical jargon to a lay person. Highly recommended (from someone that is rarely compelled to leave reviews).
Van Dyke General and Implant Dentistry - Gainesville Robert Mermer: Here is why should choose Van Dyke Dentistry. Specifically, why you should choose to accept dental care from Dr. Tyler Smayda and talk to Ms. Gloria to start your treatment program.
1) He communicates well. Hes a busy guy, as are all dentists. But if you have severe dental anxiety and need to talk through your expectations, concerns, and/or desires, you can simply say "I have a question about moving forward" or something similar. If you do that, he will stop whatever it is hes doing and converse with you. This will, in my experience, substantially decrease dental anxiety.
NOTE: You may not get the answer you want. But he will talk to you as a peer, not a nameless mouth-cadaver.
The takeaway: Dr. Smayda recognizes you as a human being who deserves to take an active part in your treatment. Hes the expert, but he will accommodate your needs.
2) Every hygienist and technician has the perfect bedside manner for those of us with dental anxiety. I REALLY needed my partner to come into the treatment room to relax me, and I knew it might get in their way.
Did they say no? No. They did not.
Did they express their frustration that I was asking to allow a non-patient, non-professional into the treatment room? No. They did not.
Did they welcome my partner into the room to calm me down AND ask if it was OK if they asked him to leave? Yes. They did. I feel awful that I made the hygienists job more difficult. But they made it seem like it was nothing. . . They put me before their own workflow (again, sorry about that!).
3) Gloria. Oh, sweet Gloria, the receptionist/office magician/gods gift to those of us lucky enough to have a dental PPO. She patiently talked me through the accommodations I need as a hard-of-hearing, extremely anxious (about dental work), needy patient. . . And she ensured all of my accommodations were met.
I hadnt successfully completed a dental visit from 2019 through 2025 because of my dental anxiety and the inability of clinics to accommodate my anxiety. Now, Im willing to go in ONCE A WEEK!
Gloria and Dr. Tyler Smayda changed that.
If theyre still accepting new patients, I urge you to get an appointment now.
Tioga Dental & Orthodontics at Tioga Town Center - Newberry Christine Ledger: This was my first visit to Tioga Dental. It was a very pleasant experience! Emily was amazing, very gentle and thorough w xrays and cleaning. Dr. Potter was very informative w options for a future procedure and answered all questions for me. Everything was immaculate and I was made to feel very comfortable. Highly recommend!
Dr Edwin F Johary DDS - Gainesville Morgan Evans: Reading some of the reviews from couple months ago before the new ones posted up did make me a little nervous. The one about the bad bedside manners is definitely false. He gave a wonderful first impression at my appointment today and I’m glad I went with my gut feeling and chose him as my dentist.
Review update as of 11/8/2024: Today was oral surgery day with extractions. Dr Johary and his assistant were amazing. I overheard a convo with another patient and it made me realize even more how hard he tries to work with his patients! He wants them satisfied. I highly recommend his office.
Review update 2/19/25: I have dentures now and dr johary did absolutely amazing. I’m finally able to smile and feel confident thanks to him and his dental assistants. I’ve had a real amazing experience and Dr Johary has been really kind.
Aza Health Dental - Gainesville MAGA RCE: Bilingual place nice for patients employees sweet but rude customers visit the place and want to be attended first. Good job
Endodontic Associates - Gainesville Gita Govinda DD: I can’t even begin to explain how grateful I am to Dr. Dean and his team.
I was referred to him by my dentist because I needed a crown. However, it was possible I might need a root canal first and he wanted Dr. Dean to take a look at it with the final say. Dr. Dean said I should be fine without a root canal. I was immediately grateful that he was taking the conservative route and not pushing a root canal if I didn’t absolutely need one. So I went and got my temporary crown from my dentist.
The tooth never recovered. It became clear that, after my tooth was shaved down, something was wrong. Lots of pain. I hung in there for three weeks until I finally called Dr. Dean’s office and said “I think I actually might need that root canal”. They literally saw me the same day and agreed I needed one. Then, they squeezed me in for a root canal right then and there! Mind you, I had been in pain for three weeks and was ready to do whatever needed to be done. I was actually excited for a root canal. Lol.
It went great. The doc and his assistant explained everything as they went along so I knew what to expect. There weren’t any surprise sensations. Dr. Dean always made sure I was comfortable with the process. It was a little chilly (for me) so the assistant brought me a blanket. Towards the end of the root canal, I was so peaceful I could have fallen asleep.
The root canal happened earlier today and I can already tell that all the pain is gone! What a relief! Thank you Dr. Dean and team!
