5 /5 Dale Cox: Dont visit expecting glam and glitz, but if you value preserved places then you will appreciate Velda Mound. Velda is a Mississippian era mound (roughly 500 years old) and takes its name from a one-time dairy farm. It is preserved at a small neighborhood park owned by the Florida Division of Historical Resources in residential community. Features include the surprisingly large prehistoric mound, an interpretive panel, benches, and a few picnic tables. Take the time to walk around the mound to appreciate the size of its footprint. The village site once covered much of the surrounding area, undoubtedly including adjacent I-10 which can be heard just through the trees.
