1 /5 Tokunbo Pope: I recently had a distressing experience with the Mobile Mechanic Jax (the mechanic’s name is Andrew) that I feel compelled to share. The issues began with scheduling complications and culminated in a costly repair and a refusal to honor a warranty.
Scheduling Issues and Lack of Communication
The initial problems arose with scheduling. The mechanic failed to call to cancel or show up for appointments multiple times. This lack of professionalism and respect for my time was frustrating and set the tone for the poor service that followed.
Installation of CV Axle and Control Arm
On January 29, 2025, the mechanic installed my CV axle and control arm, promising a warranty of 12,000 miles or 12 months on labor. I was hopeful that the repairs would be reliable and long-lasting, considering the warranty provided.
Breakdown and Unresponsiveness
Unfortunately, on March 7, 2025, the AC axle broke, and a bolt fell off. I immediately reached out to the mechanic, calling several times and sending text messages with a picture showing the fallen bolt. The lack of response was alarming.
Further Complications and Additional Charges
On March 13th, the mechanic finally acknowledged that the AC axle did break and promised to take a look. Later, he claimed that the CV axle did not break and suggested that I take my car to the nearest mechanic shop. To my dismay, he charged me for services on that day, despite not resolving the issue.
Assessment from Another Mechanic
The nearest mechanic that he recommended inspected my car and found several issues with the previous repairs. The control arm that was fixed had the nut on the ball joint almost completely off. The CV axle was damaged from the loose nut on the control arm. Additionally, the inner boot on the axle was torn, causing most of the grease to leak out. The cost of repairs was a staggering $1242.85, plus I paid $100 for towing.
Request for Refund and Unprofessional Attitude
I requested a refund and sent him pictures and the invoices from the new mechanic. His response was nonchalant, blaming everything but himself and refusing to give me a refund. This lack of accountability and professionalism was incredibly disappointing.
Grateful for Safety
I am grateful that the CV axle broke in a parking lot and not while I was on the highway, as it could have resulted in a serious accident. The thought that my life was at risk due to the mechanics shoddy workmanship is terrifying.
Conclusion
In summary, my experience with this mobile mechanic was a nightmare. From scheduling issues and lack of communication to faulty repairs and refusal to honor the warranty, every aspect of the service was subpar. I urge others to avoid this mechanic and seek out more reliable and professional services for their automotive needs.
