1 /5 Clark Ralph “Levi”: I took my van to Cobbs, not Cobbs 2, Cobbs to be clear. The van was driving fine and started squealing, after about 30 seconds the engine quit and we rolled it to the side of the road. I had it towed to Cobbs as they were recommended to me by friends. After 3 days of having to call them to see what is wrong with the van they finally checked it out and said it was the engine, it had "thrown a rod" or something but the belts looked good, the internal timing belt was good, it must be something in the engine. They recommended I send it across the Street "to Rays" because they dont do engine work. They didnt charge me anything. I called Rays, they went across the street and pushed it to their shop. Two days later they called me back, it was the engine for sure, I needed a new engine and it was going to be $3500. I said are you sure, they said yes, its something inside the engine thats bad and they dont recommend building it and wouldnt even price the repair, my only option was to replace the engine, I owed them $35 for pushing it across the street. I sold the van as damaged to a repair man who took it home and called me back two days later asking what had it been doing when it quit? After going over the squealing, coasting to a stop and story of the repair shops he informed me that the water pump had locked up and messed up part of the serpentine belt. He replaced the water pump and the belt and it was driving fine, thats why he was confused. He drove it to me and let me take a look at it, thanked me for the van that he had purchased for $350 and fixed for $75. How did TWO different shops work hand in hand to tell me that I had to have a new engine in my van when it was fixed by a shade tree mechanic for $75? This is lazy, horrible work and absolutely unacceptable customer service. I will never send any business to Rays again because of their part in this debacle. I feel that they didnt even look at the engine after trying to start it and they didnt take it apart, check compression (which it had) or do anything besides just tell me it needed an engine and then they pushed it into the ditch.
